Last-Minute Things To Do Before House Showings

Posted on

One of the worst parts about selling a house is the showings you must prepare for. While it is exciting knowing that potential buyers will be viewing your home, it also requires a lot of work preparing for these. Not only will you have to keep your house clean and tidy, but you may have last-minute things to do before you walk out of your door for the showings. Here are several things you may need to do just before leaving your house.

Check the Thermostat

When people come to see your house, you want to make sure the temperature is comfortable for them. Before you leave, you may need to adjust your thermostat for this. Does it feel nice and cool in your house if it is the hot, summer months? Does it feel warm and comfy if it is currently the winter? Make sure you adjust as needed to ensure that the potential buyers feel good while they are there.

Hide Your Pet's Food and Water

If you have a cat or dog, one of the last-minute things you should do is hide the food and water dishes. While there might be other evidence that a pet lives there, it is better to remove all the signs of a pet before people come to your home. Some people are turned off by pets and the odors and messes they leave behind, and people could also trip over these dishes if they are not expecting them to be there.

Dry the Sinks

Another good thing to do before leaving is to dry out your sinks. This can help your sinks look nicer and cleaner, and it is also a good way of knowing if the potential buyers checked your water pressure. If they are really interested in your house, there is a good chance they may turn on the faucets to see how well the pressure is.

Open the Curtains and Turn on the Lights

If you have curtains or blinds, open them up before leaving to allow natural sunlight to come in. Natural sunlight is an attractive thing to buyers, and having your curtains open can also make your house look a little larger. Turning on the lights is another good step to take as this will brighten up the rooms, and this is especially important if there is a hard-to-find switch in your home.

Preparing for showings is important because you want to impress the people that come. If you have questions about this, talk to a real estate agent today, such as at RE/MAX GOLD.
